PRODUCT GUIDE

About this ruler

Connect short pattern curves, including armholes and necklines.

At the pattern table: choose the curve that fits the line

Mark the points specified by your pattern, then use the ruler to connect them.

French curve: a shorter curved transition

Three marked points connected by a short smooth pattern curveMarked pointsTrace a smooth joining segment
  1. Plot the points required by your pattern instructions—for example, on an armhole or neckline.
  2. Rotate the French curve until a section of its edge follows neighboring points and the intended direction of the line.
  3. Draw that section lightly. Reposition with an overlap, then check that the joins are smooth before finalizing.

Hip curve: a longer, gentler contour

A long gradual pattern side-seam curve through waist and hip reference pointsWaist referenceHip reference
  1. Mark the waist, hip and other reference points specified by your pattern.
  2. Position a gentle section of the hip curve along the intended side-seam contour. Match the marked points without forcing an abrupt bend.
  3. Trace in pencil and check the transition into the adjoining straight or curved seam. Test garment fit before cutting final fabric.

Care and safe use

Use a supported work surface for measuring and marking. Before using a knife or rotary cutter against an edge, confirm the selected ruler is suitable for the blade.
