Use the board edge as the reference
Check that the board edge is straight and the drawing is secured. A bowed or damaged edge is not a reliable reference.
Hold the T-square head against that edge with the blade resting on the work surface. Keep the same registration as you move it.
Draw in pencil or pen along the blade. A triangle can rest against the blade to guide its own stated angles; keep both contact edges seated.
Choose blade length to cover the required drawing span from the board edge without unsupported overhang. A longer blade does not correct an unsuitable board edge.

A T-square establishes the board-edge reference. A triangle rests against its blade to guide perpendiculars and the triangle’s stated angles. Add the second geometry only if your drawing calls for it.
